Sallisaw NOW Coalition - Team, drug use disorder, drug abuse, prescription drug abuse, marijuana, alcohol abuse, methamphetamines

About Sallisaw NOW Coalition

The Sallisaw NOW Coalition began in 2005 as a local task force comprised of twelve concerned community organizations, government and judicial entities, and parents in response to the growing substance misuse problems, particularly underage drinking, marijuana use, and methamphetamine production in our community.  In 2007, we formally became a community coalition after being selected for funding by the Cherokee Nation, a part of the Community Action Network (CAN).  Over the years, Sallisaw NOW has continued to evolve and grow in its efforts to effect community-based prevention strategies throughout Sequoyah County.

Community-based Prevention is only as effective as its partnerships, and Sallisaw NOW maintains strong ties to various sector representatives in the county – such as law enforcement, healthcare, education, behavioral health, outreach and religious/faith-based organizations – all working together for the common cause of local prevention.

In October 2014, I started at People Inc as a Youth & Family Counselor. I was able to provide counseling services to anyone under the age of 18 that didn’t have Soonercare. Micki Kimble

Special Projects Coordinator

My name is Micki Kimble.  I was born and raised in Sequoyah County. After graduating Northeastern State University, I spent 6 years at DHS assisting residents in applying for SNAP benefits and state aid. I later accepted a position working with youth in our community by providing them with mental health resources and education on substance abuse prevention, coping skills and communication. In 2020, I made my way to Sallisaw NOW where I serve as the Special Projects Coordinator. I provide education on identifying Opioid overdoses, initiating emergency care and utilizing Narcan as a recovery tool. It is my belief that by providing individuals with resource and information we can have a major impact on the current opioid epidemic and create a safer community for all involved.
